Wondering, “Should I Sell My House?” Great Reasons that Now is the Right Time to Sell

The decision to sell a home may not be easy, but there are many instances when, no matter how difficult it may be, selling is for the best.

If you’re at a crossroads and you aren’t 100% sure if putting your house on the market is the right decision, the following factors will help you answer the question you’ve been asking: “Should I sell my house?”

Your Family is Growing

Whether you’ve recently found out that you’re going to have your first child or that you’re going to be welcoming a second (or third, or fourth) bundle of joy to your family, now might be the perfect time to sell. If space in your current abode is already tight and fitting another person – and everything that he or she is going to need – will end up making your house burst at the seams, selling would certainly be in everyone’s best interest. You can use the profits you make off the sale of your house to purchase a bigger property that will offer you and your growing family enough space to spread out and live comfortably.

Your Family is Shrinking

Conversely, if your family is shrinking, selling your house could be a smart idea, too. If your children are grown and they’re moving out to start their own lives – they’re off to college, moving into their first apartment, getting married and starting a family, etc. – and you and your spouse are empty-nesters, downsizing wouldn’t be a bad idea. If you just don’t need all of that space anymore, you could use the profits from the sale of your house to buy a smaller space that will be easier to navigate and maintain. If you’re retired and you have more free time, you could even take some of the funds from the sale of your house to do some of the things you’ve always wanted to do but never had the funds or the time to do.

You Don’t Like the Location

While the neighborhood may have been great when you first purchased your home, things have changed. That once quiet street has become a thoroughfare. The wooded area that your property backed up on has been sold and the trees have been cut down and replaced with houses or a strip mall, or traffic has gotten so crazy that turning out of your development has become nearly impossible; whatever the case may be, if you’re no longer happy with the location of your current home  – or you were never happy with it in the first place – consider putting your house up on the market. Take the proceeds to purchase a new space in a better location. Keep in mind, however, that you should do your due diligence and thoroughly research before you settle on the location for your new abode so you don’t run into the same problems; at least not for the foreseeable future.

You Got a New Job

If you’ve recently accepted a job offer in another town, another county, or even another state, selling your house may be necessary. If the new position is going to be so far away from your current house and you’re going to end up spending more time commuting than you will at home, well, putting your house on the market and purchasing a new one that will be in closer proximity just makes good sense.
